You may not think of Allegany County as having the right type of climate and geography to allow for the formation of tornadoes, but the region does experience tornado events from time to time. A tornado can occur at any time of year and any time of day.
There have been 23 residential fire fatalities in the State of Maryland, from January 1, 2017 to May 3, 2017. In cases where the cause of the fire has been determined, smoking, cooking and heating were the leading causes of fatal residential fires.
