[ARCHIVED] Miltenberger Seminar

CUMBERLAND – Newly appointed Department of Emergency Services Director James Pyles provided opening remarks at the 17th Annual Miltenberger Emergency Services Seminar at Rocky Gap on Saturday to an audience of over 200 healthcare professionals.

“This seminar and all the pre-conference courses gives our career and county volunteers an incredible continuing education opportunity,” Pyles said. “The providers in this county and across the state are lucky to have a group of dedicated committee members to bring these educational opportunities in honor of a former medical director and trauma pioneer.”

The Miltenberger Emergency Services Seminar is held annually and offers courses for all healthcare professionals including emergency communication dispatchers, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, nurses and physicians.

Named after the late Dr. F.W. Miltenberger, the seminar was initiated in 2002 with funds that were contributed to a memorial after his sudden death on August 3, 1999.

Dr. Miltenberger was described as a man of education, perseverance, compassion and action whose contribution to EMS greatly benefited the people of Western Maryland and the state of Maryland.

The accomplishments achieved as a result of Dr. Miltenberger’s efforts affected every aspect of EMS. His leadership helped to build, maintain and explain the life-saving services that affect everyone in Western Maryland.

“I have worked alongside the EMS and fire service for years, but it wasn’t until recently that I truly see what the dedicated paramedics, EMTs and firefighters do for this county. I am incredibly honored to be part of such a team,” Pyles added.

The course has several local sponsors including but not limited to Allegany County Department of Emergency Services, Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Garrett Regional Medical Center, Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems and the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute.
