Jacob C. “Jake” Shade was first elected to the Board of County Commissioners of Allegany County, Maryland, in 2014 for a four-year term and was re-elected in 2018. He is the President of the Board of County Commissioners.
Commissioner Shade earned a Master of Professional Studies in Technology Entrepreneurship and a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland in 2015 and 2013, respectively. He is a graduate of Allegany High School, Cumberland, Maryland. Commissioner Shade is a Fellow of the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance, a professional development program associated with the University of Maryland School of Public Policy.
Commissioner Shade works in the insurance industry in Cumberland. He possesses a Life and Health License as well as Series 6 and 63 Licenses, and AHIP Medicare Certification. Commissioner Shade formerly worked in the Maryland General Assembly as a Legislative Director.
During this term in office, Commissioner Shade and his fellow County Commissioners serve on the Allegany County Board of Health. Commissioner Shade also serves on the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors, the Tri-County Council for Western Maryland, Inc. Board of Directors, the Allegany County Social Services Board of Directors (ex-officio), and the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) Legislative Committee.
Commissioner Shade is a member of Queen City AF & AM Masonic Lodge #131 and The International Churchill Society. He is a former member of the Allegany County Republican Central Committee.
Commissioner Shade is a native of Cumberland and resides there.
